Olympic Swimmer Michael Phelps Gets Arrested for DUI

The winner of 22 Olympic medals, (18 Gold) and is known as the most decorated Olympian of all time, was arrested in Maryland recently for driving under the influence, excessive speed, and crossing double lane lines on I-95 in Baltimore, Maryland.  The arresting Officer reported that Phelps was traveling 84 miles per hour in a 45 mile an hour zone and could not perform basic field sobriety tests. 

This is Phelps 2nd DUI, as he was arrested in 2004 for a DUI in Maryland.  He was sentenced to 18 months of probation for the 1st offense.  USA swimming has said that it will withdraw financial support for Phelps during his "reprimand" period for his current charges.  He has also lost his advertising contract with Kellogg Co.  The spokeperson, Susanne Norwitz has stated that "Michael's most recent behavior is not consistant with the image of Kellogg." 

Phelps does not have any plans currently to be in the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
